The New York Book Forum is off to a roaring start! For those new to the mailing list, welcome. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization serving the publishing community and its efforts to promote literacy. As a member of the board of directors, I’d love to catch you up on all things NYBF.

In the last few months you’ve heard from Martha Hanson (Vice President) and Janet McCarthy Grimm (President) about the launch of NYBF, our successful first program featuring Kyle Zimmer, CEO of First Book, and a snapshot of our upcoming events. Conversations with Jay Diskey, former executive director of the Association of American Publishers PreK-12 Learning Group, and Michael Cirelli, former executive director of Urban Word NYC and founder of the National Youth Poet Laureate Program, are still on tap for Wednesday, June 16 and Wednesday, August 18, respectively.

NYBF programs will continue virtually via our YouTube channel. While we wish we could see one another in person, remote programming has allowed us to broaden our reach. We hope future programs will incorporate a hybrid format as vaccinations increase.

New on the radar: the NYBF softball game will take place Saturday, August 28 in Central Park. Please check back for more details. We are also still in the process of reimagining the 34th New York Book Show, scheduled for Tuesday, October 12, 2021.

Wishing you a happy and healthy spring as we head into Memorial Day Weekend!

Sincerely,

Brigid Black
