Summer is here! We hope you’re enjoying the sunny weather, perhaps by sitting outside and reading a book.

As secretary of the New York Book Forum (NYBF), I’d like to thank you for the support you’ve shown our blossoming nonprofit so far this year. Here’s a peek at what we’re up to next, plus some easy, fun ways you can get involved with building bridges between the publishing industry and the public while emphasizing the importance of reading and literacy.

We kicked off our event calendar in April with a lively conversation with Kyle Zimmer, CEO of First Book. If you couldn’t join us live, you can still watch the recording on our YouTube channel. Be sure to follow us on FacebookTwitterInstagram, and LinkedIn for announcements of our future programs.

Speaking of programs, you’re just in time for our next one—a presentation from Naomi S. Baron, Professor Emerita of Linguistics at American University in Washington, DC, and author of “Medium Matters for Reading: What We Know about Learning with Print & Digital Screens,” a study commissioned by the Book Manufacturers Institute. Baron will discuss her findings and more with NYBF president Janet McCarthy Grimm next Wednesday, June 30, at 7:00PM EDT / 4:00PM PDT. No registration is necessary; just join us on our YouTube channel to watch the interview and chat LIVE with our guest.

Some hints about future happenings: we are hosting a softball game fundraiser on Saturday, August 28, in New York City. Registration details will be announced soon, so keep an eye on our social media and event calendar. We’re also in the process of reimagining the 34th New York Book Show, normally an in-person celebration held each fall in New York City. If you aren’t located near New York City, no worries—we’ll be announcing some more virtual events and programs soon. In the meantime, stay cool and keep reading!

Best,
